New Jersey ground freezes, thaws, and freezes again all winter. Water in the soil expands when it freezes.
That movement pushes pavers up and lets them settle unevenly. The technical name is frost heave.
Pavers are only as good as their base. A thin or poorly compacted base traps water and shifts.
Once that happens, the pavers follow. They sink, tilt, and pull apart at the joints.
We dig deep and compact the base in layers. That gives the pavers a solid, stable bed.
Water is the enemy. We grade the site so water runs off, not under your patio.
Edge restraints lock the perimeter so pavers cannot spread. Polymeric joint sand keeps them tight.
Often, yes. We lift the affected area, repair the base, and reset the pavers.
